Open the door to a world of expansion with ‘The State of the Asana’.

Each time, while in the State of the Asana, lies the opportunity to push the door further, to tap into the essence of this yoga practice and to extract the juice of the Asana.

We find a steady, hopefully comfortable place, where our mind can be calmer; where we can feel and explore inhaling and exhaling slowly along the spine (traditionally around five times but can be less or more to suit your needs) and the subtle energy flow, merging with the waves of our breath to reach a higher state of consciousness.

The State of the Asana is also a learning place to explore the use of bandhas, the energy locks that help us to harness our inner strength and direct Prana (the life force energy) throughout our bodies.

In Yoga Mala by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, there are a few asanas where the use of mula bandha is differentiated. For example, in Prasarita Padottanasana A, it is recommended to hold tightly onto uddiyana bandha while slightly loosening the mula bandha. However, in Upavishta Konasana, holding mula bandha and uddiyana bandha tightly is crucial, especially in relation to gridhrasi nadi (sciatic nerve).

The State of the Asana, is a powerful place where our mind can transcend limitations and our consciousness expand in every direction.
